Career transitions will take place in a couple of weeks. Should be working on the presentation to impress prospective employers but.

I'm tired.

There's exploitation everywhere (videos of kids dancing like sl*ts: Jenna Rose and locally, Jan-Jan). There's the issue of three Filipino criminals going through China's death sentence (which I wholeheartedly agree with). An anti-spanking bill that's sure to bring out the brats in our already bratty young ones. Can see it now, the Philippines will be full of self-indulgent slackers that will think the world owes them something.

And gay people everywhere are still fighting to be understood.

There was a month when all the gay male bloggers I follow were in party mode, while all the lesbian bloggers are just being their usual contemplative selves. Now even the gay bloggers seem to be pensive. (Just felt my balance tip a little bit...riiiight there. I visit lesbian blogs for the profundity of their thoughts, while the gay males provide me with wise-ass cracks.)

We need something to be genuinely happy about. Something that does not involve asking a 6-year-old to gyrate like a macho dancer for everyone's entertainment.

Was supposed to write about "Pray the Gay Away", but what can I write that isn't already obvious?

So, I decided to entertain myself by watching Russell Peters. Can't afford to intellectualize. My new jobs demand absolute ownership of my brain. So will just keep this entry humorous. Russell Peters is very good at that.

Fight Back New York

Was just reading through my Google Reader and noticed something interesting: Alec Baldwin in a "fight for marriage equality" ad. The man is hilarious.

New Yorkers are a fascinating lot. Wish everyone had as much balls as they exhibited. Their FightBackPac actively campaigns against senators who voted against LGBT marriage rights. And they've actually succeeded in booting Hiram Monserrate out of the running. Their targets are 30 Republicans and 8 Democrats, citing that these very politicians also stood in the way of other progressive bills.

What makes me wonder, really, is how politicians can still afford to be this stubborn when the LGBT people no longer seem like a minority anymore. In Latin America, for instance, there's a whopping 25 million LGBT (source: ETurboNews and WebWire) -- and economists are talking about a huge untapped market.

Figured that Canada's support for same-sex marriage has something to do with why they are not as affected by the recession as the United States is. People tend to take for granted the wedding industry, where brides turn into Bridezillas (grooms into Groomzillas?) and end up spending thousands of dollars for so many frivolous items that they would never have bought were they in a much saner condition. (Been there. Done that.) When countries such as Israel and Japan do not have same-sex marriages but will recognize same-sex marriages held outside of their countries, you can imagine the number of international LGBTs going into Canada just to get wedded and then have these unions registered in their home countries. Huge cash flow for Canada, methinks. Why aren't any of the anti-gay politicians and researchers paying attention to this?

Going back to the topic, it is quite interesting to see how things will turn out for Fight Back New York.

It Gets Better: A Presentation by Google Employees

Wish the internet was this powerful when I was in college. Living in a predominantly (conservative) Catholic Asian country is not easy if you're gay. Had no problems with accepting who I was, except the girl I went out of the closet for deserted me. It wasn't so much that she broke my heart, but the pain was caused by the thought that I had risked and sacrificed my peace for someone that was not worth it.

Overdosed on Tylenol at the time, survived by a hair's breath and lived with damaged internal organs (and perhaps a damaged brain) for a while. Then spent the next twelve years trying to be straight with boyfriends who were convinced that I was frigid because they failed to have their way with me.

Hope to live to see the day when LGBT people will be on equal footing with hets again.

Wearing purple on October 20 signifies your support for Spirit Day.

People like Daniel Radcliffe have spoken for the Trevor Project, a suicide hotline for gay youth. My own little contribution to the cause is wearing purple today. It's in support of Spirit Day, October 20, which is held in honor of the gay teens that have committed suicide in recent news. Tasha Gawkowski and Malcolm Zawacki called various group to awareness through their Facebook event and many people all over the world are participating. This blogger included.

On OCTOBER 20th, 2010, WE WILL W...EAR PURPLE IN HONOR of the 15 young men and women who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to constant bullying in school and or at home. Some of these young ones were of the GLBTQ community and some were bullied just for being different.  

PURPLE represents Spirit on the GLBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: SPIRIT. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. This event is to honor their lives and their memories. No child should have to go through this abuse. The Bullies must be stopped, the hate must be stopped. 

Gay suicide happens all the time in the Philippines but never have they been brought to light the way it has been for people of the United States. I'm hoping that Filipinos would participate, too, especially since gays have been a huge part of our lives.

I actually risk recognition by posting photos of my outfit for today, but I almost don't care. (Was actually accidentally outed during a recent blogger event by another lesbian blogger who immediately knew I am a ka-federasyon.) If this is something that would help other gays and lesbians understand that they are not abominations, then will willingly risk being identified.

Malditera is pro-Reproductive Health Bill, which the Catholic church had been rejecting for as long as we can remember. The RH Bill is something that the country needs badly but the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) believes that it is a detriment to their pro-life sentiments.

It's not. The RH Bill is pro-life. It saves poor women from dying needlessly because of complicated childbirths and saves young babies from being thrown in the trash bin by parents who could not afford to raise them. It keeps families small and manageable.

The RH Bill is pro-life and pro-family.

Thought we were few, people who believe this very same thing. The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country and the CBCP wields a lot of power over the government. Talks of excommunicating President Noynoy Aquino brewed, which led tourist guide Carlos Celdran to stage a protest during a Manila Cathedral mass. Quite the theatrical feat. Celdran wore a costume worthy of José Rizal's Noli Me Tángere while holding a placard with the words "Damaso" scribbled on it. Damaso was the corrupt Spanish priest in Rizal's aforementioned novel and was a symbol of the Filipinos' oppression in the 1800s.

Does Malditera agree with Celdran's actions? No and yes. No, because I believe in the sanctity of every religion. Spirituality brings a sense of healthy balance in people's lifestyles. This goes for ALL religion.

Yes, because it had to be done. He broke the silence. Someone had to do it. Now everyone is clamoring for the RH Bill. He was also quite accepting of his punishment, if his happy expression in jail is any indication. It takes real guts for someone to fight for his convictions in this manner.

A state attorney becomes a cyber bully.

This CNN report disturbed me quite a bit. Apparently, Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell has posted defamatory blog entries about gay student council president Chris Armstrong. Among the adjectives used were: "pervert" and "Satan's representative". As interviewer Anderson Cooper pointed out, the blog attacks border on the obsessive and even defined the lawyer's actions as "cyber bullying".

Malditera calls it stalking. In the worst, possible manner. Could almost swear that the attorney himself is gay and is in denial about it, thus projecting on the hapless student.

I must have been living under a rock - some of the stars featured here surprised me. Cynthia Nixon? Wasn't she in that popular chick flick Sex and the City? Other shockers: Wanda Sykes. Jane Lynch, though that should've been obvious. Top Gun's Kelly McGillis. Heroes' George Takei. Yuz, Hiro Nakamura's dad is gay.

Quite disturbing are the comments from haters. Not only are they uneducated, they frequently used God's name to proclaim their hatred. Closer observation of their subject-verb disagreements and misspellings show where the hatred is coming from. They should chew on this: Global Warming is caused by their uneducated abuse of God's gift of procreation. The world is dying partly because many uneducated straight people took the words "go forth and multiply" literally.
